Transcript Downloader for YouTube · Effective October 4, 2026

Your transcript is processed in your browser. No transcript is sent to the developer or payment provider. Optional account and payment services use ExtensionPay.

1. About the extension

Transcript Downloader for YouTube is an independent Chrome extension for reading, searching and saving the available transcript of a regular video on the desktop YouTube website. It does not create captions from audio. It is not affiliated with YouTube or Google.

2. Information processed in your browser

When you request a transcript, the extension reads the current video title, identifier, URL, channel, caption languages and transcript text with timestamps. It may read the existing transcript panel or current-video page data, or make same-origin requests to YouTube caption and transcript endpoints using your existing YouTube session.

It can briefly enable native captions and request one caption reload to obtain YouTube's own response, then restore the previous caption state if you are still on the same video. It does not start playback, seek, skip ads or intentionally navigate away. A packaged page script observes only same-origin timedtext responses for the current video.

Your transcript text is not sent to the developer, ExtensionPay or Stripe. Cookie values, authentication headers and caption proof-token URLs stay on YouTube and are not saved or returned to the extension popup. YouTube handles these requests under its own policies. The extension contains no analytics, advertising or unrelated browsing-history tracking.

3. Storage and saved files

  • Free allowance: the local calendar date, IDs of counted videos and pending export reservations are stored in Chrome local extension storage. Three different videos can be exported each day; repeated exports of those videos do not use another slot. IDs are not uploaded for quota tracking.
  • Download recovery: pending records include video ID, reservation token and the extension-started Chrome download ID so interrupted downloads can release a free slot. Transcript text is not saved in those records.
  • Working memory: transcript text stays in popup/page memory during use. A bounded page-memory cache can keep parsed captions for up to three videos until the page is closed or refreshed. The response observer rejects bodies larger than its limit. This cache is not persistent storage.
  • ExtensionPay: the bundled library stores an installation timestamp, account API/login token and cached subscription information. It uses Chrome sync storage where available, with local storage as a fallback. Cached account data can include your payment/login email. Chrome sync can copy this data through your browser account.
  • Exports: files remain where you save them. Copied text is placed in your clipboard. Uninstalling does not delete exported files or cancel subscriptions.

4. Permissions

www.youtube.comPackaged page/content scripts read current-video context, available captions and transcript text; same-origin caption requests and temporary captions acquisition support the export.

5. Payments and third-party services

Optional Pro payments and account access use ExtensionPay, which uses Stripe for checkout. ExtensionPay handles email, account identifiers and subscription status; Stripe handles payment information. The developer's export code does not receive your full card number. Account/status checks can also occur for free users and expose ordinary request metadata such as your IP address to ExtensionPay. No transcript is included.

Review the providers' policies before purchase, including Stripe's privacy policy and ExtensionPay's privacy information on its website. The Blogger page hosting this policy may involve Google hosting, logging or cookies separately from extension processing.

6. Your choices

Previewing a transcript does not use a free export slot. You can use the free tier without buying Pro. Use Log in for an existing paid account or Manage subscription for billing access. Removing the extension does not cancel a subscription. If the provider cannot verify paid status, Pro formats remain locked while free access remains available.

Clear extension storage or uninstall to remove browser-managed extension data; synced or payment-provider records may remain. Keep exports private when they contain sensitive material. Export and share only content you have the right to use. Auto-generated captions and subtitle timing can contain errors; review them before relying on them.

7. Children

This extension is not directed to children. Anyone using payment services should follow the providers' age requirements and privacy policies. Transcript content is not uploaded to the developer.

8. Updates

This policy describes version 1.0.0. If data handling changes, the policy and effective date will be updated. Effective October 4, 2026.
